Music in game menu
As I am completely hopeless when it comes to music, I decided to pick a tune that I could recreate on the system. I thought about picking a nice British war tune as this is a game centred around a battle, so I had a look at a few different ones. In the end I selected “I vow to thee my country” as it is a nice tune and not too militaristic. I downloaded the music score and printed it out.
I created a piano sound effect with just a tone and a basic sound fade. I found that I was quite easily able to transcribe the notes for the main melody directly into my program by using a channel for each note. This creates a pleasing effect when the chords are played. The music does have some notes that are held and so have a longer duration. I could recreate that in my system, although it would mean modifying the score in some way, either for every note or specific notes by inserting some sort of marker byte that I would check for as the notes are read. This might be something I will do later on.
